The New Shetlander

The New Shetlander, ‘Scotland’s oldest literary magazine’, has a bit of everything: fiction, poetry, history, memoir, reviews, and (my personal favourite) Barbara Fraser’s Da Wadder Eye column. The Yule 2017 issue has some treats, including an eerie story from Donald S. Murray, a twist in the Selkie tale by James Sinclair, and a Christine De Luca poem about the ‘Monks’ Steyn’ of Papil. Shetland College’s own Jacqui Clark has a selection of poems based on her time with an Altzheimer’s Scotland knitting group in there. I’m tickled to see my wee scrap of a poem about my ancient, crotchety hens – I’ve never had an egg out of them, so this is the height of their productivity.
